Tryon Fine Arts Center celebrates fifty years of fine arts in the Foothills with a concert and reception on Saturday, September 7 featuring incomparable jazz from Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo.
Join us for an inspired and intimate evening of a duo performance from NEA Jazz Master, renowned Grammy Award®‐winning saxophonist and Tony Award® nominee Branford Marsalis and his Quartet’s longtime pianist, Joey Calderazzo. The paired evolution has been a brightness at the core of an adventurous band, that itself has added light and heat to the music of its time. On their spectacular duo collaboration Songs of Mirth and Melancholy, Marsalis and Calderazzo reveal an ever deepening musical relationship, and provide the listener with a glimpse into their musical journey.
Since its inception 50 years ago, Tryon Fine Arts Center has been the creative driving force for performances, exhibits, arts education, and community partnerships in the Foothills. On February 12, 1969, TFAC first opened to the public with a performance of "The Madwoman of Chaillot" from Tryon Little Theater. TFAC was originally founded as a home for the many active arts organizations in the Foothills. While these organizations have matured and found homes of their own, TFAC has grown into a thriving arts center in its own right, offering dozens of performing and visual arts events each year.
“This concert celebration is a culmination of the past year’s celebration of TFAC’s 50th Anniversary,” said Executive Director Marianne Carruth. “Thanks to the support of Tryon and the surrounding community, we’ve been able to offer life-enriching artists and experiences for half a century. I’m so pleased to celebrate this milestone with a world-class performance from Branford and Joey.”
