Jim Peterman

Jim Peterman was the original organist and pianist in the Steve Miller Band from 1967 until 1968, joining just a week before the band’s appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, followed soon after by their Fillmore Auditorium gig backing Chuck Berry. Jim played on two Steve Miller Band albums, Children of the Future and Sailor. When Jim left the band, jazz pianist and singer/songwriter Ben Sidran took his place. In later years, Jim played organ on two of Sidran’s solo albums.

Since moving from Wisconsin to North Carolina in 1994, Jim has had a major impact on the Upstate and WNC music scene forming and performing with a variety of bands, demonstrating his versatility as a musician, playing everything from rock to R&B to jazz, and bringing his experience to seasoned and up-and-coming musicians alike. A 2014 Tryon Daily Bulletin article called him, “…a guiding light for many musicians in this area.”

Currently, Jim leads or plays with several bands in and around Tryon, North Carolina including, the Shane Pruitt Band, Zendetta, The Basement Bunch, and often sits in with the Rich Nelson Band, among others.

Jim Peterman may be a musical legend, but he’s also a down-to-earth guy who is respected and treasured in the Tryon community.
