An Epic Adventure!
Stars Peter O’Toole and Alec Guinness, with Anthony Quinn, Omar Sharif, Claude Rains, and José Ferrer. Winner of 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, Lawrence of Arabia is based on the true story of British Army Lieutenant T.E. Lawrence during World War I who, because of his experience in the Arabian Peninsula, is sent to assess the progress of Prince Faisal’s revolt against the Turks.
It was not a high-priority assignment, however, Lawrence, who was known to be an independent thinker, sometimes to the point of insolence, befriends Faisal, and goes rogue. He puts together a guerilla army of Arab tribes, who often war against each other, to fight a common enemy. As Lawrence becomes immersed in the brutalities of war and military politics, he questions not only his own identity, but also his patriotic allegiance.
Often touted as one of the greatest films ever made, Lawrence of Arabia was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film registry.
Experience it on the big screen at the historic Tryon Theatre!
“…You can view it on video and get an idea of its story and a hint of its majesty, but to get the feeling of Lean’s masterpiece you need to somehow, somewhere, see it in 70mm on a big screen. This experience is on the short list of things that must be done during the lifetime of every lover of film.” – Roger Ebert
