The TFAC Film Series continues on Tuesday, March 9 at Tryon Theatre and will feature Cabaret.
Cabaret unfolds in 1931 Berlin, where American nightclub singer Sally Bowles and a British academic navigate romance, friendship, and indulgence against the ominous rise of Nazism. Set largely in the decadent Kit Kat Klub, the film uses its stage performances to mirror the turbulent political climate outside.
Celebrated for its bold departure from traditional musicals, striking social commentary, and Liza Minnelli’s iconic performance, it won eight Oscars and remains culturally significant for its unflinching portrayal of freedom under threat.
