Elizabeth Goddard is Executive Director for Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC and been teaching The Artist Way for over a decade.

Join Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, Dr. Igor Begelman, as he explores American culture and art through a new series of intimate and engaging  virtual gatherings. Step back and take a deep look at the artistic and creative energy that shaped the American cultural landscape. From the spirited night life of the Harlem Renaissance to the scores of immigrant influences that pushed boundaries and paved the way for American entrepreneurship in artistic forms. Each interactive session will run 45-50 minutes with additional time for an engaging conversation to follow with Dr. Begelman.

Explore various movements and styles that conjure the heart and look of America. We will explore the history and events of the time period and how some of these works helped change the landscape of American identity. Share memories and experiences, and react to the works throughout the class, journaling to find each individual's American aesthetic.

November: Flag Art - From Betsy Ross to Jasper Johns, the American flag is more than a symbol of the country; it is inspiration for artists throughout history. Explore some of the images and meanings behind the art of the flag
