A Tribute to Nina Simone, featuring Reggie Headen and Kelle Jolly

Songwriter, pianist, vocalist, and activist Nina Simone was one of the most significant musical artists of the 20th century, creating music for the Civil Rights Movement that spanned a wide variety of genres ranging from Jazz to Blues to Classical to Gospel. Honoring this legendary and prolific musician will be a 5-piece ensemble featuring Asheville-NC based vocalists Kelle Jolly and Reggie Headen, accompanied by a trio consisting of WNC locals Derrick Gardner (piano), Connor Law (bass) and Jason DeCristofaro (drums/band leader).
Jason DeCristofaro (Band leader/Drums):  Dr. Jason DeCristofaro is a music educator, multi-instrumentalist and composer/arranger based out of Asheville, NC.  He is music faculty at Warren Wilson College (Swannanoa, NC) and East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, TN).   A published composer with C. Alan, HaMaR, Per Mus, and Tapspace, Jason’s concert works have been performed in China, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan and throughout the United States. The winner of the 2011 Yamaha/Percussive Arts Society Terry Gibbs Competition (an international scholarship competition for jazz vibraphonists), Jason performs regionally, nationally and internationally as a jazz vibraphonist, drummer, pianist and percussionist when he is not teaching.

From tender nuanced notes to full growls, groans and moans, he commands our attention by the sheer and unabashed righteousness of his delivery.” (Peggy Ratusz, 50+ Living of Western NC Magazine)
